Abstract
After briefly elaborating the concept of environmental goods and its importance for sustenance of life, a strong argument is forwarded for including selected jute and coir products in this category. Relevant properties of these fibres have been cited for highlighting their strength vis-à-vis commercial fibres employed for development of technical textiles. The production processes and critical properties of three types of geotextiles, three types of agrotextile and of a packaging textile developed from jute and coir fibres and based on concept of eco-friendliness have been briefly described, indicating the tremendous untapped potential of these materials.
