Abstract

The transportation network connects logistics nodes and transportation links with each other. Thus, the network is very complicated according to the connectivity, accessibility, availability, capacity, and regulations of each node, road, and combination. Modelers digitize and store complex, realistic situations on a computer by collecting and generating data. They use this digitized data to model for prediction and operations to accomplish the purpose of a business goal and project. This modeling process can incorporate mathematical graph theory to represent complex transportation networks in an abstract model. In this chapter, we explore the components of a graph, different types of graphs, and the characteristics of each graph. In the conceptual understanding of the graph, we will also investigate the connectivity of an expanded network, or network graph, among logistics nodes and transportation links.
