Abstract

This chapter is an introduction to measurement of the many properties of films covered in the data chapter of this book. Theory and measurement techniques are covered. Physical properties including: specific gravity and density, dimensional stability, shrinkage and expansion, color and appearance, and coefficient of friction. Mechanical properties reviewed include various tensile measures, flexural and folding, puncture and tear. Thermal properties covered include melt flow index, melting point, and glass transition. Electrical properties are also covered. The discussion of permeation theory and measurement is detailed.
