Abstract

This chapter discusses the necessary procedures required in the design of an off-grid hybrid renewable energy system (HRES) for optimal energy production at any site. With a case study system, it reports the performance analysis of a typical HRES comprising solar PV system, wind energy conversion system, small hydro, and battery energy storage. The results obtained from the simulation demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed architecture for that particular case study. The economic analysis of the project used as a test case confirmed the viability of the suggested model, with a levelized cost of energy (LCOE) of $0.1294 and higher system reliability. Earlier in this chapter, a review of the famous renewable energy technologies that support HRES, as well as HRES different architectures, has been carried out. This chapter equally reviews the simulation software tools that are used in contemporary time to carry out simulations for optimal design of HRES.
