Abstract

This chapter focuses on hybrid electric powertrains for passenger vehicles. In particular, the main aim of this chapter is to provide a presentation of the design, modeling, and control principles for such systems. A short overview on modeling techniques and optimization-based control for energy management of hybrid electric systems is therefore provided in the text. The chapter focuses particularly on the energy-based simulators of hybrid electric vehicles aimed at energy/fuel consumption evaluation or usable to design supervisory controllers optimized for fuel economy.
