Abstract
The potential and challenges of using global net primary productivity (NPP) of crop residues and forestry co-products, and of diverting additional land and water resources to biofuel production are explored. Particular attention is paid to the impact of soil and water resources for food production and nature conservancy. The effect of addressing energy demand by establishing energy plantations of biofuels is explored with reference to the greenhouse effect.
