Abstract
The environmental damage caused by the utilization of fossil fuels can be successfully addressed by agro-industrial waste valorization in a circular bioeconomy. One way this can be achieved is by the production of biogas from agro-industrial waste, which helps to address environmental and climate change challenges. Bioactive substances are abundant in agricultural leftovers. Agro-waste can be utilized for the generation of sustainable and renewable resources by developing technologies that effectively and efficiently convert them into value-added products. These wastes may be efficiently utilized in various research, agricultural, and industrial sectors. The purpose of this chapter is to highlight and provide a broad review of the use of agro-waste as an alternative source for the creation of various products, including biogas, biofuel, compost, and bio-fillers, as raw materials via anaerobic digestion reactions. In addition, the chapter also covers and discusses the various elements of bio-filler classes based on ceramics, lignin, and polysaccharides and explores their application in various sectors. The case studies provide a quick overview of the financial benefits of upcycling to bio-fillers. Utilizing agricultural and industrial wastes as raw materials can lower production costs and the environmental pollution burden. It will provide an introduction to future opportunities for the development of more effective and efficient technologies for transforming agricultural waste into value-added sustainable products.
