Abstract
Ingestions of caustic substances and/or foreign bodies are common medical problems encountered in the pediatric population. The severity of both caustic and foreign body ingestions ranges from very mild requiring conservative monitoring, to severe requiring emergent intervention. It is the duty of the healthcare provider to determine where the patient lies on this spectrum and act accordingly. This chapter will focus on the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and outcomes of different types of ingestions where applicable as well as clinical assessment and management.
