Abstract

Web handling is the art and science of getting a web through a machine as fast as possible and with minimal waste and certain other troubles. These skills are essential to all processes from web manufacturing, to roll-to-roll converting and up to the final step of cutting the web to length when it is no longer a web. While elements of web handling have been known for more than a century, it was not until the mid-1980s when the Web Handling Research Center was formed that people across many industries recognized they had a common set of problems.
