Abstract
Medical textile materials are a special type of functional textiles with production technologies encompassing textiles, materials, medicine, and many other disciplines, making them among the most technically sophisticated and commercially valuable products. This chapter outlines key considerations for the formulation of an appropriate research and development strategy during the development of medical textile materials. The market characteristics are analyzed, in combination with product positioning principles. By taking into consideration the characteristics of medical textile materials, a practical research and development process is proposed, with significant implications in guiding the successful development of medical textile materials.
