Abstract
Cooling first catalyst bed exit gas and passing the cooled gas through a second catalyst bed increase SO2+0.5O2→SO3 oxidation efficiency from ~70% to ~95%. SO2 oxidation efficiency can be increased even further by (a) cooling the second catalyst bed exit gas and (b) passing the cooled gas through a third catalyst bed (Chapter 16).
