14 - Energy management using Lean

Abstract

In this chapter, an introduction of “Lean energy” is provided. The chapter introduces the concept of Lean and how Lean manufacturing and Lean thinking can support energy management. The first section will give a brief overview of Lean and its origins from Toyota Production System. This is followed by a presentation on ways of thinking related to energy management, explains Lean energy thinking and discuss practical aspects to drive and lead the energy management work. The final section is a review of a case study in a multinational heavy equipment manufacturer.
