Abstract
In this study, pulsating fatigue test had been performed in order to evaluate fatigue behavior of notched structural stainless steel under applied mean stress. All specimens were made to final shape and dimensions only by machining. The main results obtained in this research are as follow; (1) Fatigue limit of applied mean stress specimens increases with an increase in compressive mean stress. (2) Applied compressive mean stresses on martensitic stainless steel are more effectively increase the fatigue limit than that on ferritic stainless steel. (3) Compressive mean stress delays crack initiation and suppresses crack propagation.
