Abstract

This chapter discusses F distribution. F distribution is a distribution that allows one to use the sample variances to test if the assumption about the population variances is a reasonable one. It can also be used to test a given ratio of the variances and to obtain confidence limits for this ratio; this distribution is called the F distribution. If the inequality is satisfied, one has a non-significant result. If one has two sample variances based on degrees of freedom and two population variances, F distribution can be calculated and the null hypothesis can be calculated, that is, the ratio of the population variances.
