Abstract

The present chapter deals with the main issues for membrane reactor modelling. Reactor modelling strategies, together with a classification of the main mathematical model categories, are presented and discussed. Then the membrane reactor concept is illustrated and, specifically, dense hydrogen-selective membranes are presented. As an example, a natural gas steam reforming Pd-based membrane reactor is completely modelled. Model equations, derived from mass, energy and momentum balances, are reported and explained together with boundary conditions.
