Abstract
This work addresses the potential improvement of energy efficiency in cooperative MIMO internet of things network with different types of hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) mechanism. The slow fading scenario is considered to analyze the performance of MIMO transmission schemes with the performance metrics of energy efficiency, spectral efficiency, and throughput. To optimize the tradeoff between energy efficiency, spectral efficiency, goodput, and outage probability is considered, and there is study on corporate cross-layer approaches of physical layer and MAC layer. In physical layer, contending nodes and outage events are calculated by the transmit power, whereas in MAC layer the throughput and energy efficiency of the network are reduced due to the additional time and energy to attempt the channel access. To overcome the impact in the MAC layer, a cooperative MAC protocol with the HARQ mechanism is addressed to cooperate and to improve energy efficiency. The results are shown for different HARQ mechanisms with MIMO transmission schemes, and the complete system model for cooperative MIMO is compared with noncooperative MIMO network to show the further improvement of network energy efficiency.
