Abstract

This chapter presents the concepts and techniques involved in developing user interfaces. It discusses the types of windows that the pop-up window system provides. The chapter describes the tools needed to support both the general purpose window package and the menu package. Developing tools in a way that they are modular and flexible is an important software design issue, especially when the tools are developed that serves as the foundation for other higher level tools. Programs such as Turbo C or Turbo Pascal are helping to set new standards. If one wants to write useful, high-quality programs, one cannot ignore the user. The programs should be easy, natural, and fun to use.
