Abstract

Carbon material as a kind of versatile synthetic material has pervaded every aspect of our daily life and industry production in some way due to its unique structure and properties. Clay minerals are one of the most abundant natural nanomaterials with special crystalline structure and diverse morphologies, which have been used widely to develop various functional materials. In recent years, carbon/clay mineral nanocomposites, which integrated the merits of carbon materials and clay minerals, are increasingly attracting research attention. This chapter discusses comprehensively the preparation, properties, and functional applications of various carbon/clay mineral nanocomposites by summarizing relevant literature and our group’s latest research achievements on this subject. The future development trends and potential application fields of carbon/clay mineral functional materials are also discussed. This chapter will provide useful reference for understanding the emerging carbon/clay mineral materials and draw more attention to extend their applications in the aspects of advanced functional materials.
