Abstract
The first elements of the science «Soil science» begin to appear in Russia in the 20s of the last century and finally take shape in a new scientific direction at the turn of the 30s. The creation of the Road Research Bureau (1924) and the country’s first road research laboratory (1925) opened a new direction in road business. St. Petersburg (Leningrad) State University has played a key part in the development of soil science as a science. The founders of the scientific school of soil science at Leningrad State University are N. I. Prokhorov, P. A. Zemyatchensky, V. V. Okhotin
