Abstract

In this chapter, experimental studies using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques conducted on the electroless nickel–phosphorus (Ni–P) deposits, for their crystallisation and phase transformation behaviour under linear heating conditions are described. The effects of deposit phosphorus content on the as-deposited structure, and the sequence and activation energy of crystallisation processes for the deposits are analysed. The phase transformation temperatures of the electroless Ni–P deposits in response to different phosphorus contents and heating rates are also examined. Changes in microstructure after heat treatment are examined using a high-resolution field emission scanning electron microscope.
