Abstract

Historical origin and some physical fundamentals are briefly introduced to provide an idea of the Barkhausen effect phenomenon, which was the first evidence of the existence of magnetic domains. Not all the facets but some important aspects of the domain structure and domain wall dynamics that give rise to birth of the phenomenon as well as the relationship between Barkhausen effect and the typical magnetic hysteresis are appropriately discussed. The enquiry about deterministic and stochastic nature of Barkhausen noise is also interesting to address. Finally, few applications treating in terms of nondestructive evaluation or materials characterization using Barkhausen noise are clarified.
