Abstract
This chapter starts with a review of the historical developments of PGMs and their applications in computer vision. It then discusses the motivation and necessity of this book for computer vision researchers. This is then followed by introducing the book's key objectives and the key technical issues for PGMs. This chapter ends with a discussion of the layout of this book, including the topics to be covered in each chapter.
