Age and Gender Structure in the Petty Bourgeoisie in the Cities of the Tomsk Province in the First Half of the 19th Century
The authors state in the article that the major trends in the development of the gender structures of the middle-class population were formed under the inf luence of the large administrative center of the province
Using the archival sources (towns’ books and church painting), the authors investigated the age and gender structure of the bourgeois family of Tomsk and Barnaul, presented its dynam ics and identified its major trends. It is stated that almost all age groups are predominated by senior women, but on the whole, during the pre-reform period in Tomsk and Barnaul there were no significant differences in the age and gender structure of the b urghers

Age and Gender Structure in the Petty Bourgeoisie in the Cities of the Tomsk Province in the First Half of the 19th Century. Если в половом составе мещан преобладали женщины, то в общей массе горожан — мужчины. Что почти во всех возрастных группах заметно преобладание женщин, особенно в пожилом возрасте, но в целом в половозрастной структуре мещан Томска и Барнаула на протяжении дореформенного периода существенных раз личий не наблюдается. При этом преобладание численности женщин следует отметить также в мещанстве не только Сибири, но и всей России. Мужчины составляли 58,2 %, женщины — 41,8 %, в Алтайс ком районе диспропорция была меньшей: доля мужчин — 50,1 %, женщин — 49,9 %.
