Abstract

The purposes of this study are: (1) to investigate the importance of career education in Practical arts (Technology-Home Economics)education through reviewing Practical arts & Technology .Home Economics curriculum, (2) to explore the possibility of integration by comparing the 7th Practical arts(Technology•Home Economics)curriculum in Korea with the Applied Technology Education Core Technology-Life-Career curriculum in Utah, USA and review them, (3) to provide preliminary data for developing the integrated Practical Arts(Technology•Home Economics) curriculum with the focus on career education. To implement these proposals, Technology, Life & Career Curriculum(4th edition) & CAREER DEVELOPMENT ACTMTIES AND TLC RESOURCES in Utah, USA and the 7th Practical arts(Technology•Home Economics)curriculum in Korea are reviewed and analyzed. The research findings are as follows: 1. The directions of the career education in the Applied Technology Education, USA are characterized as (1) relating academics and technical skills to real-life context, (2) moving from vocational education to career education, (3) integrating academics competencies and technical competencies. And the career education could be focused in Practical arts(Technology*Home Economics) education by exploring the importance of career education in Practical arts(Technology-Home Economics) education. 2. The name of the subject, the curriculum operating method and the objectives are confirmed as integrated concepts, and this integrated concepts can be applied to Practical arts(Technology-Home Econorriics)education because both subjects have similar objectives and content areas. 3. One model of the Integrated Practical arts(Technology*Home Economics) curriculum is proposed with the focus on the mission, objectives and content areas of the subject.
