The relevance of the proposed study lies in its focus on the study of the lexical innovations that emerged with the outbreak of the global pandemic caused by the coronavirus SARS. Nowadays we observe a significant interest in the detailed study of the ways of creating neologisms and their structural and semantic features. This makes it possible to outline trends in the word-forming system of a particular language in general and English in particular. The purpose of the proposed publication is to analyze the ways to enrich the vocabulary of modern English with lexical innovations, to determine the linguistic parameters of tumors to denote the phenomena associated with the global pandemic COVID-19. Examining neologisms based on the terms "coronavirus" and "COVID-19", we see that most of them are formed by telescopy and word formation. A new unit of language is created by synthesizing two already existing units with certain graphic and phonetic changes while preserving the most significant morphemes.
