Abstract
The review analyzes an illustrated anthology on the history of Ukrainian culture. It is emphasized that this book is the first attempt in Ukrainian educational literature to present comprehensively the historical and cultural genesis of Ukraine from ancient times to the XIX century. It is noted that in the context of the modern orientation the domestic higher education is aimed at analyzing the phenomenon of Ukrainian culture and revising established views onto the perception of its phenomena, the issue of the announced anthology seems relevant to us. The review emphasizes the indisputable factual value and prospects of using the illustrated anthology on Ukrainian culture in institutions of higher education of Ukraine in the courses “History of Ukrainian culture”, “History of Ukraine”, “Ukrainian Ethnography”, “Traditional Culture of Ukrainians”, “History of Ukrainian Art”, “Cultural Studies”; in cultural, historical, ethnographic, local history studies; in museum, cultural and educational practices. Historical and cultural essays formulated for each of the five sections of the anthology, unique documentary and illustrative material are a significant basis for students’ successful assimilation of knowledge onto the history of Ukrainian culture. The textbook will be useful not only for students, but also for cultural workers and those who are interested in the culture of our nation.
