Abstract

The publication presents information about two international Kyrgyz-Russian ethnographic expeditions in the south of Kyrgyzstan. With the participation of scientists from Russia and Kyrgyzstan, in 2022 the expedition carried out its work in the Chon-Alai district of Osh region, and in 2023 in the Chatkal district of Jalal-Abad region. The study covered the rural Kyrgyz population living in remote high-mountain regions of the Pamir-Alai and Western Tien Shan. A high level of preservation of various elements of material and spiritual culture among the local population has been revealed, protecting the most archaic features in the economic system and material culture. Based on the information obtained, regional features of the Kyrgyz economic system, which is based on pastoral activities, have been identified. Certain elements of the traditional economy of the local Kyrgyz, such as hunting, as well as the production of felt and the ornamental motifs used, find direct parallels in the culture of the southern Altaians.
