Abstract

The review is devoted to hydrogenation processes of aromatic substrates differing in reactivity using catalysts of different activity. The global trend in this area is the search for more active and selective heterogeneous catalysts for hydrogenation of the aromatic ring, both for industrial processes and in laboratory practice. An analysis of literature data on the hydrogenation of polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons, phenol, aniline and their derivatives, as well as arenes substituted with a functional group, is presented. Various types of catalysts for the hydrogenation of an aromatic ring, the patterns of the process depending on the structure of the substrate and reaction conditions, the nature of the active phase and the catalyst support are considered.
