Abstract

The article is devoted to the source study analysis of information resources of the daily Kyiv newspapers “Nova Rada” and “Kievlyanin” about the cultural life and leisure of Kiyvans at the times of the Central Rada. The possibility of reconstruction of the cultural environment of the city and the organization of leisure of its inhabitants with the help of materials of the periodical press is proved. The daily Kyiv periodicals “Nova Rada” and “Kievlyanin”, being different in terms of materials, methods of presenting information, style of writing and ideological orientation, covered different issues of Kyiv life in different ways, recreating a holistic picture of the everyday urban environment of that period. The most popular ways of the rest of Kyiv residents are determined and the specifics of functioning of entertainment establishments and cultural institutions are considered on the basis of advertisements on the pages of press. The study of newspaper periodicals is conducted using the methods of source studies. Attention is focused on the fact that newspapers not only informed the population of the city, but also acted as a means of influencing the formation of people’s tastes and needs.
