Abstract
Factors of transformation of network of citiec and settlement systems in Russia are revealed. The reasons for the loss of urban status are named. The full list of former Russian cities transformed into urban-type settlements and rural settlements is given. All absorbed, abolished and disappeared cities on the territory of the Russian Federation are listed. A complete list of former regional and sub-regional centers of the Russian Empire, the RSFSR and the Russian Federation is presented and characterized. The ways of using the historical and cultural potential of former cities and regional centers for the development of cultural and educational tourism are considered.
