Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify whether leisure activities have a significant impact on happiness and social capital formation. The subjects of the study were 120 H elementary school students and 120 Y middle school students who attended the village school in Nowon-gu and the survey was filled out by self-evaluating methods. Questionnaires were used as a survey tool and a total 217 questionnaires were used for this study. For statistical processing, the questionnaire data was analyzed using performed frequency analysis, correlation analysis, t-test, simple and multiple regression analysis using SPSSWIN Ver. 26.0 (a significance level is p<.05). The results of the study are as follows: First, the results of how often they participated in leisure activities were in the order of ‘participation in entertainment and cultural activities (Watching TV, movies, concerts, plays, etc)’, ‘participation in social activities (friends gathering, eating out, traveling, family gathering, etc)’, and ‘participation in hobbies and indoor activities (singing, playing musical instruments, reading, etc.)’. Second, leisure activities that respondents had participated recently (2020-2021) were shown in the order of sports participation, hobby entertainment, social and other activities, rest, tourism activities, cultural and artistic participation activities, cultural and artistic viewing activities and sports viewing activities. Third, elementary and middle school students who participated in the program participated in leisure activities, village school leisure activities in school, and happiness showed significant differences. Finally, looking at the causal relationship of variables, leisure activities had a significant impact on social support and happiness, village school leisure activities in school had a significant impact on social support and happiness. And social support had a significant impact on happiness.
