Results The results of the study are as follows. First, economic and leisure cultural activities were found to have a negative effect on depression in the elderly's participation in social activities. Second, the difference in age groups was significant in the relationship between social activities and depression of the elderly. In participation in social activities, it was found that the late elderly had more negative effects on both economic activities and leisure and cultural activities than the early elderly. Third, the difference in family types was significant in the relationship between the elderly's participation in social activities and depression. In participation in social activities, there were more significant negative differences in economic activities for the elderly living alone than for the elderly living alone, and there were more significant negative differences in leisure and cultural activities for the elderly living alone than for the elderly living alone.
Conclusions Based on the above research results, practical measures according to family type and age group were proposed as a way to revitalize the elderly's participation in social activities to prevent depression in the elderly.
