Abstract
The aim of the article is to study the prospects for the use of coal as the main fuel and energy resource of Kemerovo Region. We analyzed the use of coal at the regional, national and world level as a fuel energy resource and the prospects for the development of the coal industry in Russia and in the region. Methods. The analytical and statistical research methods were used in the article. Result. The current situation defines new development paths – the use of coalmine methane as an intermediate stage of transition from coal-fired power plant and the formation of a new innovative industry in the region, such as renewable energy. Conclusions. The development strategy project of Kemerovo region until 2035 presupposes the existence of certain goals in this direction. It indicates a change in the radical development path associated with coal and the awareness of possible problems in the near future by administration of the region.
