Abstract

The research objective is as follows: relying on linguoculturological analysis, the author tries to reveal the peculiarities of alliterative parallelisms functioning in poetical works of the American XX-century poet R. Wilbur. The study is conducted by the material of two 1987 poems - “A Fable” and “Parable”. The paper examines linguistic and extra-linguistic peculiarities of alliteration functioning in R. Wilbur’s poetical texts, describes alliterated syntactic constructions identified in the analyzed poems. The author for the first time considers the functioning of alliterative parallelisms in R. Wilbur’s poetical works taking into account extra-linguistic factors, reveals the influence of syntactic and semantic parameters on euphonic accents distribution along poetical text, and herein lies scientific originality of the research. The findings are as follows: the author shows how onomatopoetic, structural and logical functions of alliterative parallelisms correlate with meaningful structure of poetical texts under study.
