Abstract

The aim of the study is to analyze the success of mastering verbs of motion by Chinese students of Belgorod State National Research University in the process of teaching Russian as a Foreign Language. The difficulty of mastering of this component of the program by Chinese students at the preparatory faculty is determined by crosscultural and mental barriers while studying Russian verbs of motion arising from insufficient comparative analysis of Russian verbs of motion and their Chinese equivalents according to differentiating semantic features: direction of movement, mode of transportation and nature of orientation. The scientific novelty of the study lies in identifying difficulties in mastering verbs of motion in the Russian language by Chinese students and substantiating the causes of these difficulties. As a result, practical and methodological recommendations have been formulated for Russian as a Foreign Language teachers on training Chinese students in verbs of motion based on the comparison of Russian verbs of spatial meaning and their Chinese counterparts regarding objective and subjective reference points.
