Abstract
In an experimental study, different methods of diagnosing pregnancy in females were compared, their additional capabilities and advantages were evaluated in addition to establishing the fact of pregnancy itself. Among all the methods, two main ones can be distinguished – radiography and ultrasound. In the first case, the study provides almost 100 % accuracy in determining the number of fetuses and, accordingly, establishing the very fact of pregnancy. This is due to the fact that it can be carried out already in the late stages (after 42-45 days of pregnancy). But this is its main drawback, because the earlier a dog's pregnancy is diagnosed, the better. Many animal owners refuse this method, including due to radiation overload. Ultrasound is the main and preferred method of diagnosing pregnancy in dogs. Its great advantage is that ultrasound allows you to quickly, without compromising the health of the bitch and the fetuses she carries, to carry out an early diagnosis of pregnancy. Pregnancy diagnosis using ultrasound in dogs is possible from the 16th day after ovulation. Ultrasound has other equally important capabilities: determining the condition of fruits, determining the period of pregnancy, identifying gross malformations of fruits.
