Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of historical and pedagogical prerequisites for the de-velopment of research activities of students of higher educational institutions of the Russian Federation. It was noted that the research work of students has a long history of development — the first student societies began to be created in the Russian Empire at the end of the 18th century, the research activities of students actively developed during the USSR. After its collapse, stagnation occurred, and a new impetus for the development of research work of university students was given in the late 90s thanks primarily to the implementation of the Federal Target Program "State Support for the Integration of Higher Education and Fundamental Science for 1997-2000". The structure and content of higher education has been modernized, which has also led to a change in the organization of research activities of students — a research approach in teaching and education has become widespread, and one of the priorities of higher education has become the formation and development of research thinking in the learning process.
