Abstract

King Jijeung who ascended the throne in 500 AD changed title of the king from Maripgan to King, improved local administrative division to state · county system, and set country name to Deokeopilsin, Mangrasabang of Silla, in which Mangrasabang means Silla is expanding its power in all directions. Silla having its vision of Mangrasabang expanded its territory in all directions and as it landed at the Eastern Coast, it clashed with Usan-guk. However, it subjugated Usan-guk in 512 and secured the command of the East Sea. This fact is found in the Wa-related entries in the Silla-bongi of the 《Samguk Sagi》. Currently, Korea claims ‘Historic Title of Korea’s Territorial Sovereignty over Dokdo’ based on the entries about Isabu’s subjugation of Usan-guk. Historic title means it can be the source of the right historically. In other words, the fact that Isabu incorporated Usan-guk into Silla is the proof for the claim of the right that it is Korean territory. Isabu who successfully subjugated Usan-guk gained supreme military power since then, destroyed Han River region and Daegaya, accomplished tasks including compilation of Korean history, expanded Silla in all directions, and resulted in the great accomplishment to the foundation for the unification of the Three Kingdoms. In conclusion, Isabu is the figure who ascertains historical fact that he incorporated Dokdo into our territory and is one of the Korea’s three ocean heroes as Isabu of the East Sea together with Yi Sun-sin of the South Sea and Jang Bogo of the West Sea.
