Abstract

The article examines the legacy of the founder of Russian pedagogical science K.D. Ushinsky, his influence on domestic pedagogy, characteristics of ideas and main fields ofactivity. A comparative analysis of K.D. Ushinsky's readers "Children's World", "Native Word" and a series of readers by the McGuffey brothers was carried out. The background of their creation was identified, the presence of similar ideas was determined, the features of their implementation were highlighted; approaches to the selection of material were studied; the influence on modern pedagogy was noted; the author's concepts, their content and methodological components are characterized.
