Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of sports confidence of disabled athletes on exercise commitment and performance, and to verify the relationship between the variables.<BR> Method: A questionnaire survey was conducted on 295 athletes with disabilities registered in the Korean Federation of Athletics with Disabilities. Exploratory factor analysis, simple regression analysis, and multiple regression analysis were conducted using the SPSS Window Version 23.0 program for data processing.<BR> Results: The results are as follows. First, the variables of physical/mental preparation, social support, and ability verification among the sub-variables of sports confidence of disabled athletes had a significant effect on cognitive commitment. Coach’s leadership and social support had an effect on behavioral immersion which are sub-variables of exercise immersion. It was found that the variables of leadership and ability to prove competence had a significant effect on behavioral commitment. Second, it was found that physical/mental preparation, social support, coach’s leadership, and ability verification variables, which are the subordinate variables of sports confidence of disabled athletes, had a significant effect on athletic performance. Third, it was found that cognitive and behavioral commitment, which are the sub-variables of exercise commitment, had a significant effect on performance. In addition, among the sub-variables of sports confidence, the coach’s leadership did not have a significant effect on cognitive commitment. And among the sub-variables of sports confidence, social support did not have a significant effect on behavioral commitment.<BR> Conclusion: In summary, it is found that sports confidence of handicapped athletes has a significant effect on exercise commitment and performance.
