Abstract

The paper is devoted to a manuscript, which contains a course of Logic, taught in Moscow Slavo-Greek-Latin academy by Sophronios Lychudes at the beginning of the 1690s. The manuscript is housed in the Yaroslavl museum and is still little known to scholars. The paper describes the composition (parts) of the manuscript. It is stated that Logic in Greek, which is presented here, is an unknown copy of Sophronios’ course so far. The manuscript is written by more than one hand, and relations of these to other handwritten witnesses related to Moscow academy are considered. The text of Logic from the Yaroslavl manuscript is compared to the text found in records known before in order to determine its place among other witnesses of this course. Both notes in the Yaroslavl manuscript and documents, which have become known recently, allow to reconsider the common dating of Sophronios` Logic. Features of codex put the question about how the instruction of Logic by Sophronios was established, and how his students worked on their notes, on the basis of which we discuss the course. Witnesses of bilingual (Latin/Greek) teaching of Logic are considered in connection with this question. It is argued that the Latin text of Sophronios` Dialectic, known in one codex, was not a translation from Greek.
