Abstract

The article reveals the relevance of referring to paremiological units while studying the universal linguocultural concept “safety”. The author analyzes the paremiological units from the standpoint of perception and understanding of the ideas about safety, as well as expression of attitude to it in English and Russian languages. It was established that the conceptualization of ideas about safety is reflected in paremiological units, calling not only for caution, vigilance, common sense, but also for courage, which is often accompanied by risk and recklessness. It was found that the use of paremiological units considerably enriches the means of verbalization of the concept “safety”, expanding them from a single word to expression or sentence, describing the context of the situation.
