Abstract

The article is dedicated to the transonymysation as one of the ways of creating urbanonyms. The analysis is held on the basis of the names of trade and catering enterprises of multinational Kharkiv city. The study relevance is determined by the unquestionable quantitative growth of these names, the diversity of their creating models, the prevalence of the importance of these onyms advertising function over the informative one, the reflection in the naming of the city processes and mechanisms objects that are typical for “living” Russian language changes in urban environment. The author analyzes the emporonyms and trapesonyms which are formed from onyms of different classes excluding anthroponyms and toponyms. The diversity of a transition process of onyms into emporonyms and trapesonyms is demonstrated. The article concludes that transonymysation processes in the city objects naming largely reflect peculiarities of Russian language functioning in the multilingual Ukrainian city onomasticon and indicates the linguocultural potential of this lexical layer in the urban linguistic area.
