Abstract
This article examines the motif of solitude in the diaries of Ukrainian writers Olha Kobylianska and Arkadii Liubchenko. The focus is on the circumstances that led to feelings of alienation and detachment, with a comparison of how each author conceptualizes and experiences solitude, as well as their efforts to justify it to the reader.
