Abstract
The purpose of the article is to determine the features of ensuring national, state border security and the security of the state border in the aspect of the functioning of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. The article substantiates that the importance of a logical and consistent definition of the scope of competence of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine is due to the need to thoroughly determine the legal status of each subject of the security and defense sector, especially under the legal regime of martial law. The category of the state border is a city-forming one, which makes it possible to preserve the objectivity of the theoretical search and the consistency of doctrinal developments. It is concluded that the activity of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine is an element of ensuring national security. Thus, national security acts as a supersystem for systems of the lower level - state security and security of the state border. In turn, border security is a subsystem of state border security as one of the vectors of activity of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. The rationale is given that the importance of the functions assigned to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine necessitates a distinction between four types of security, each of which is within the competence of this entity. Arguments are given that the distinction should be based on understandable and logical criteria, which, in this case, are the levels of security (this allows us to distinguish national security from state security) and the content of security measures (due to this, we can distinguish between state border security and border security). The conclusion is made that the directions for further scientific research should be the preparation of proposals for improving the terminology of legislative and subordinate legal acts regulating the activities of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, in the aspect of delimitation from each other between different types of security.
