Abstract

Provided information on riverbed transformations and a decrease in water levels downstream of a number of hydroelectric power plants. Assessed influence of this process on operating conditions of hydraulic structures, their stability, conditions for dissipation of energy of the discharge flow, and conjugation of levels behind the spillway structures. Demonstrated an effect of lowering downstream's water levels on hydropower performance of HPP: an increase of navigational discharges into the downstream and reduce the role of HPP in developing peak power, while increasing annual electricity generation. Reviewed influence of an increase in the suction height of hydraulic turbines caused by a decrease in downstream water levels on the efficiency of their operation.
