Abstract

Objectives In this study, the mediating effect of online self-exposure on the relationship between implicit narcis-sism and SNS addiction tendency in the early adult was confirmed.
Methods To study this, a mediating effect analysis was conducted on 352 people aged 20 to 39 in Gyeongsangnam-do to measure the mediating model of online self-exposure in the relationship between covert narcissism and SNS addiction tendency. Descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, and correlation analysis were performed using SPSS 22.0, and SPSS Process Macro (MODEL 4) verified the mediating effect of online self-exposure in the impact of Covert narcissism on SNS addiction tendency.
Results The research results on this are as follows. First, covert narcissism, SNS addiction tendency, and online self-exposure showed a positive correlation with each other. Second, it was confirmed that covert narcissism can affect SNS addiction tendency through online self-exposure. Specifically, people with Covert narcissism are un-comfortable with the interest and attention of others, which increases the likelihood of relying on SNS as a means of escaping reality. At this time, it was found that SNS addiction tends to increase by avoiding negative self-ef-fects and feeling comfortable in interpersonal relationships through online self-exposure rather than in the real world.
Conclusions Based on this study, it was confirmed that online self-exposure on SNS affects SNS addiction ten-dency, suggesting that treatment plans should be established from various perspectives.
