Abstract

During the ten-year follow-up period, hydrops corneae was diagnosed in 5 (6 eyes) out of 266 patients (1.8%) with keratoconus. The age of the patients ranged from 14 to 57 years. In 2 patients, acute keratoconus was the first manifestation of corneal ectasia. Decompensation of chronic keratoconus was observed in the period from 1 to 19 years from the onset of the disease. In all patients, autologous blood injection into the anterior chamber in the acute period of the disease made it possible to stop corneal edema and corneal syndrome in a short time. Hemoplombing of the anterior chamber in acute keratoconus makes it possible to stabilize the process in the cornea for a sufficiently long time and delay (avoid) reconstructive intervention as much as possible. Keywords: acute keratoconus, hydrops corneae.
