Abstract

The paper justifies the thesis that phraseological units (proverbs and sayings) often represent universal supranational categories and are deprived of national specificity. The study is based on a structural-semantic analysis of the Ossetian, German and Russian proverbs and sayings with the component ‘сыгъзæрин/gold/золото’. Scientific novelty of the article lies in the fact that the lexeme ‘сыгъзæрин/gold/золото’ is for the first time analysed from the viewpoint of its phraseological semantics. The conducted research allows concluding that the lexeme ‘сыгъзæрин/gold/золото’ possesses universal semantic features.
