Abstract
Purpose: To better utilize and revitalize Seogwipo Port, where the volume of goods has recently decreased, this study diagnoses the port’s current status, including cargo handling capacity, and predicts the future volume of goods. Research design, data, and methodology: The Facebook Prophet model is used to predict the volume of goods through Seogwipo Port, and a SWOT analysis is conducted to find ways to revitalize the port. Results: With the increased cargo volume in Jeju Port, the decrease in volume in Seogwipo Port is accelerating. As cargo volume in Seogwipo Port decreases, it is not functioning as a trading port. Cargo volume prediction analysis shows a continuous decline until 2026. To revitalize Seogwipo, policy coordination like the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province’s policy to promote imports and exports with ASEAN countries and attract the space industry is necessary. In particular, considering the beautiful natural scenery around Seogwipo Port, it is essential to create a special port as a tourist attraction. Conclusions: By revitalizing Seogwipo Port, it will regain its original function and will have a positive impact on the local economy.
